Only you could make people laugh at the most serious situations! I only wish the very best for you and the boys and I hope your book is a HUGE success. I can't wait to get my copy!

Lisa: As your accountant and financial advisor, I am going to purchase multiple copies of your book to keep on hand to give to my clients and prospective clients with autistic children. Instead of making a comment such as, "I know how difficult an autistic child can be", I now can say "Here is a book that will make you smile and appreciate the funny moments in your raising your child."

I have a 7 year old ASD. He was using the Wii Fit last year. He asked about the word Obese, and I explained it to him. He had been having trouble in school with some behaviors, and the Vice Principal restrained him. (Something I never approved of, and he's in a different school now.) My son had many words to describe this man. To make a long story short, we saw him pumpkin picking last year. My son ran over to him and said Mr. Blank...You are obese. I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life. Anyway, this is a great idea! Thanks for getting it out there!

My son is 6 and for the past three years we have struggled with therapies, trying to "fix" our son. One day, I was correcting his speech once again when he looked at me and said "Mommy, that is your way to say that word. Please learn my way now" I realized that I needed to learn about the way he sees our world, not try to make him see MY way. Once I opened up to that mind set, I discovered that my son is a very funny kid! I hope that one day, people will be able to see the funny, heart-warming and sweet ways of autism! Thanks!

Lisa that is such an awesome and positive way to look at things. there are so many negativities one can focus on that humor and happiness(unfortunately) tend to be pushed aside sometimes. Your book sounds exactly like what so many parents need, (in reference to your story on the website)a pitcher of lemonade from so many wonderful lemons!

Leslie Klayman said:   July 8, 2009 5:46 pm PST
I am a speech pathologist who works with autistic children. I too agree that their is so much humor with these children, and they offer such a rich outlook on life. I will take better note of any stories that might work for your book, and will spread the word in my school. Best always.

i love this site my daughter is 17 and is high functioning autism last week they were digging the ditches in our neighborhood and she asked why (we live in southeast louisianna) and i told her well its hurricane season and the ditches need to be bigger to hold more water to help us not to flood , and her response was " do we need to pack, is it time to go" she has lots of words that she gets all messed up like asparagus is sparagaragus!!! coat hangers are hang coaters...

You never stop amazing me. Just when I think you can't take another let down, you pick yourself up, brush yourself off and start something brand new. This book serves so many purposes as you will see. I think it's great that we are able to still see the humor in life and allow ourselves to laugh whenever we can. The best - to the best!

Hi, and i want to thank you for making this site. I find it a very possitive support system to all parents dealing with Autistic Children. It helps remind them that there is beauty in the hard times, and joy in the eyes of a child.

Katey said:   September 29, 2007 6:28 pm PST
Hi Lisa, I absolutely love your website, it is fantastic, what a great job! WOW WOW WOW!!!! What a beautiful gift you are in the process of making and, might I add, you look absolutely gorgeous as do your boys!! I love your idea, it is a great one (and much needed). As you know I work with children with autism and part of my philosophy of teaching (and learning from these children) is with a lot of humor, laughter and a huge amount of "goofy-ness" (which I am full of). I have found it makes all the difference in the world not just for the children and teacher but for the parents/family as well. I have learned so much from these kids and each day is different, not always fun and games that's for sure but never a dull moment and constantly filled with rewards and a whole lot of love and understanding. I admire what you are doing and who you are as a human being, just tremendous!! Take care, you're doing an unbelievable job and keep me posted! Katey

Mark Sullivan said:   September 29, 2007 5:38 pm PST
I can't recall who, but either Sid Caesar or Mel Brooks once defined the difference between comedy and tragedy like so: When a person walks down the street and disappears into an open manhole, it's comedy. When you're that person, it's tragedy. The trick for those of us traversing the spectrum is to find the humor in having walked into a manhole cover... ..and I do believe there's a whole lot of funny down there--if you look at it right. Good luck with the project.
